Principal naval architect, inventor and member of Novellent Offshore LLC Twelve years of experience in the offshore oil industry, including extensive experience in project management, engineering supervision, and technology pioneering. Other engineering and naval architecture experience spans across the range of fixed and floating structures.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT & ENGINEERING SUPERVISION
Complete responsibility for six major installation projects and numerous smaller projects. Managed various installations of topsides and structures. Charged with project proposals, bidding, coordination, fabrication, detailed design, and the whole range of installation engineering: floatover deck mating, jacket loadout, transportation, launch, flotation/upending, tiedown designs, and trans-Atlantic tow fatigue analysis. Projects include:

  • Tunisia Miskar Project: Lead Naval Architect for installation engineering of BG Tunisia Miskar development project comprising three (3) platforms at 205' W.D. in offshore Tunisia.
  • Exxon Alabaster: Lead Naval Architect for installation engineering of the Exxon Alabaster fixed platform in 486' W.D. in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Ras Laffan Project: Lead Naval Architect for Ras Laffan LNG project, 8-platform complex. Major pioneer work included detailed engineering and model test for a 6,000 MT PU deck floatover installation using the McDermott "Loose Slot" Floatover method
  • Qatar Upstream Development: Lead Naval Architect for Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Upstream Development, 2-platform complex, employing the "Loose Slot" Floatover method
  • Amerada Hess Compliant Tower: Lead Naval Architect for Amerada Hess compliant tower detailed design in 1,648' W.D. in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Texaco Petronius Compliant Tower: Lead Naval Architect for Texaco Petronius compliant tower project in 1,754' W.D. in the Gulf of Mexico
  • NKK Compliant Towers: Lead Naval Architect for NKK compliant tower installation engineering studies, two compliant towers in 1,148' W.D. and 1,968' W.D.

TECHNOLOGY PIONEERING
Inventor and engineering pioneer for various novel offshore structures and installation procedures, including:

  • Wellspring Float-Through System: Inventor of Novellent Wellspring Float-Through System design licensed to J. Ray McDermott Engineering LLC. This patent pending system employs hydraulic lift and pneumatic motion compensation for swell condition installations of up to 15,000 ton decks in W. Africa.
  • Seabed Storage & Offloading System: Design developer for a seabed storage and offloading system under contract with Conoco Inc. This novel system is capable of economically storing 750,000 bbls at the seabed and employing the riser as a single anchor leg mooring in 6,000' WD for periodic offloading by a shuttle tanker.
  • Floating Tower: Design developer for Novellent Floating Tower offshore platform currently under consideration for the Department of Defense for deepwater radar monitoring station. This patent pending platform achieves fixed platform type accelerations in a floating design capable of application to ultra deepwater, heavy deck, and remote installation applications.
  • Loose Slot Floatover: One of two principal inventors of McDermott "Loose Slot" floatover system. Patent pending on this cost effective floatover method that provides safer operation over existing floatover systems.
  • Skid-off Floatover: Leader of a task force to develop Spar floatover alternatives for Exxon Diana project. Developed detailed procedure for "Skid-off" floatover operation.
  • Static Hull Launch: Leader of a task force to develop Spar "Static Launch" procedures for spar hull installation from a launch barge.
  • Amerada Hess Truss Spar: Lead Project Naval Architect for Amerada Hess SPAR preliminary design pioneering the new concept of a truss SPAR structure in 1,648' W.D.

NAVAL ARCHITECTURE & MARINE ENGINEERING
Extensive experience in the full range of naval architecture and marine engineering task related to the offshore oil field, including:

  • Structural Design: Performed detailed engineering for more than sixty (60) tiedown designs for barges, jackets, decks, piles, and modules. Conducted structural modeling and API code checks for various launch barges. Originated conceptual design of a J-lay support tower.
  • Floating Structures: Performed the feasibility study for the conversion a McDermott pipelay barge to a floating Methanol production barge. Also performed tanker modeling and motion analysis for an AMOCO FPSO.
  • Fatigue Analysis: Performed transportation fatigue analysis for numerous structures including Trintomar Pelican jacket and the trans-Atlantic transportation of the Conoco Main Pass 312C jacket.
  • Loadout Analysis: Performed detailed loadout engineering analyses for several projects including the AEDC Block 486 jacket and Exxon Mississippi Canyon Block 397A jacket.
  • Transportation Seakeeping Analysis: Performed the seakeeping and motion analyses for more than thirty (30) offshore structures including jackets, decks, piles, and modules.
  • Launch Analysis: Performed computer simulation and supervised offshore operations for four (4) jacket, Spar hull, and compliant tower launches.

FIELD EXPERIENCE
Extensive fabrication yard and offshore supervision experience, including:

  • Fabrication Yard Experience: Participated in nine (9) jacket loadouts (Sohio Ewing Bank 826A, Conoco Block 52A, Texaco Block 6A, AEDC Block 486, Exxon Mississippi Canyon Block 397A and five (5) for BG Miskar project).
  • Offshore Experience: Supervised onboard ballasting procedures for ocean tow and pre-launch conditions for the AEDC Block 486 jacket. Participated in, and supervised, four (4) jacket launch, floatation/upending, and set-downs (two for Conoco Block 52A, one for AEDC Block 486, one for Exxon Mississippi Canyon Block 397A). Various deck mating operations.
